Advances in Appreciative Inquiry as an Organization Development Intervention.
Appreciative inquiry, as a method of changing social systems, is an attempt to generate a collective image of a new and better future by exploring the best of what is and has been. These new images, or "theories", create a pull effect that generates evolution in social forms. This paper by Gervase R. Bushe originally published in Organization Development Journal focuses on the prescriptive nature of Appreciative Inquiry in three basic forms: 1) Discovering the best of.... Appreciative interventions begin with a search for the best examples of organizing and organization within the experience of organizational members. 2) Understanding what creates the best of.... The inquiry seeks to create insight into the forces that lead to superior performance, as defined by organizational members. What is it about the people, the organization, and the context that creates peak experiences at work? and 3) Amplifying the people and processes who best exemplify the best of.... Through the process of the inquiry itself, the elements that contribute to superior performance are reinforced and amplified.

Appreciative Inquiry and the Quest
An exciting new paradigm for human development and social innovation. By asking positive questions, we can generate new images of the future
images evoked by the best of the past and present. These powerful images
of ourselves, our organizations and the world
can inspire action and innovation. Philanthropy, as the concrete expression of our "love of humanity," can provide an ideal vehicle. This Web site introduces the visitor to a new theory and methodology of human development called appreciative inquiry (AI). Although AI originated in the field of organization development, it soon became clear that AI represented a new way of seeing the world -- a new way of thinking, acting and being. The site provides additional information about AI and the Quest, Quotes about AI, and several different articles on the process.
